NIYSO: Man Kidnapped in Chechnya to Be Sent to the "SVO"

Activists from the Chechen opposition movement NIYSO have reported the kidnapping of Usman Arbashev from Alkhan-Kala, which they claim was carried out with the intent of forcibly sending him to war in Ukraine.

According to NIYSO, Arbashev was kidnapped on February 5 and taken to police in the Sernovodsk district. Activists believe the young man was singled out because he had no "father or influential relatives," making him an easy target, and also because of his "excessively long hair."

Shortly after the kidnapping, NIYSO claims, Arbashev was transferred to the Akhmat-Sever regiment, where, according to the opposition movement, he is being tortured into signing a contract with the Ministry of Defense.

Rosfinmonitoring recently added the Chechen movement NIYSO ("Justice") to its list of organizations involved in "extremist" activity. The initial ban was imposed by the Supreme Court of Chechnya in September 2025.

According to Russian authorities, NIYSO, founded in August 2022, advocates for the separation of Chechnya from Russia and the creation of an independent Republic of Ichkeria, considering the current authorities in Grozny to be an occupation force. In the spring of 2025, according to NIYSO reports, Chechen authorities began confiscating property and forcibly removing relatives of movement members from the republic.
