Elena Patyaeva—a friend of Seda Suleymanova, who disappeared three years ago after being forcibly returned from St. Petersburg to Chechnya—was detained in Grozny. On August 23, Patyaeva stood by the monument to journalists who died for freedom of speech, holding a sign that read: "I demand an investigation into the murder of Seda Suleymanova." Most of the people killed during the “special operation” in Ukraine among the residents of the North Caucasus Federal District and southern Russia were in Dagestan – 736 people. In total, there are at least 1,653 of them in the North Caucasus Federal District.
The deaths of 276 people from the Stavropol Territory, 258 from North Ossetia, 172 from Chechnya, 122 from Kabardino-Balkaria, 48 from Ingushetia and 41 from Karachay-Cherkessia were also confirmed.
