On Wednesday, February 25, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan arrived in Warsaw for a two-day official visit. He began the day with a meeting with his Polish counterpart, Donald Tusk, after which he posted a video. In the video, which quickly went viral on social media, Donald Tusk makes a "heart" with his fingers—the Armenian leader's signature gesture.
Speaking to foreign ambassadors, diplomats, and analysts in Poland, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan outlined Yerevan's expectations of the European Union. He emphasized the importance of the EU's ongoing support, including the deployment of the European Monitoring Mission (EMM) in Armenia.
"The European Union is Armenia's most reliable partner in strengthening democracy. Last year, our parliament adopted a law on Armenia's accession process to the EU. This law is a crucial incentive for us to continue our democratic reform program," Pashinyan said.
The Prime Minister also emphasized new opportunities for peace in the South Caucasus, expressing hope for the EU's participation in developing regional communications and attracting European investment. The benefits of cooperation within the European Peace Facility, particularly in the defense sector, were particularly noted.
Pashinyan also stated that Armenia is counting on the EU's assistance in creating new infrastructure on the Armenian-Turkish border. He reiterated that the Armenian side is ready to provide a route for trucks traveling from Turkey to Azerbaijan and from Azerbaijan to Turkey.
