Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the opening of the Akhalkalaki-Kars railway route, which runs through Turkey and Georgia, for Armenian exports and imports. He stated that this route will open Armenia's access to the European Union.
"I am pleased to announce that the Akhalkalaki-Kars railway, like the corridor through Azerbaijan, is now open for Armenian trade. This is a significant event for our country's economy. I express my gratitude to our partners from Turkey and Georgia," Pashinyan wrote on social media.
He added that Armenia is already connected by rail to the Russian Federation via Georgia and Azerbaijan, and to China via Russia and Kazakhstan. A route through Georgia and Turkey leading to the EU will also be added.
Pashinyan also announced the upcoming launch of the Armenia-Turkey, Armenia-Azerbaijan, and, later, Armenia-Iran railways via Nakhchivan.
"We will witness these events in the near future thanks to the implementation of the TRIPP project," the Prime Minister emphasized.
Turkey's Special Representative for the Normalization of Armenian-Turkish Relations, Serdar Kılıç, commenting on Pashinyan's announcement, stated: "This is a new stage in direct trade relations as part of the normalization process between Turkey and Armenia. I hope that this new step, which will also contribute to the development of quadrilateral cooperation between Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia and significantly strengthen regional peace and stability, will be beneficial for all participating countries."
