Former lawyer of the North Ossetian Chamber detained on suspicion of fraud

The police detained former lawyer of the North Ossetian Chamber Elman Pashayev. He is suspected of fraud.

The investigation believes that in February of this year, Pashayev met in Moscow with the husband of the arrested blogger and "queen of marathons" Elena Blinovskaya, Alexey. The lawyer convinced him that for a large reward he could release him and his wife from criminal liability for tax evasion. Pashayev received a large sum of money from Blinovsky, but apparently did not fulfill his obligations.

Recall that in 2020, Elman Pashayev defended Russian actor Mikhail Efremov, who, while drunk at the wheel, drove into the oncoming lane in the center of the capital and crashed into a van. The driver of the van died. Efremov stated that Pashayev convinced him to bribe three witnesses. In court, they said that Efremov himself was not driving at the time of the accident, and that someone else was driving the car.

In September 2020, by decision of the Council of the Bar Association of North Ossetia, Pashayev was stripped of his status as a lawyer. However, he then passed the exam and received his license again. After that, the Council of the Federal Chamber of Advocates intervened in the situation and revoked Pashayev's status.

30 April 2026

The 2026 World Press Freedom Index, published this morning by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), records the worst deterioration in global media freedom in 25 years. More than half of the world's countries rank the situation as "challenging" or "very challenging," and the average index level has never been lower. A key trend is increasing legal pressure on the media: of the five indicators used to assess press freedom worldwide (economy, law, security, politics, culture, and society), the "law" indicator showed the most significant decline.
