Bombing of schoolchildren in the town of Ivanova, Grozny

October 25, 2001

***
In the town of Ivanova in Grozny, students of secondary school No. 33, twin brothers Ismailov, born in 1986, were blown up. They were returning from classes in the sports section along Staropromyslovskoe Highway. As a result of the explosion of an unidentified device, Zurab Ismailov's left leg and left hand were torn off, and his eye was also damaged. His brother has minor shrapnel wounds.

The prosecutor's office opened a criminal case on this fact; nothing is known about the results of its investigation by the Human Rights Center "Memorial".

Every morning, Staropromyslovskoye Highway, like other streets in the city, was checked by sappers for the presence of landmines. Nevertheless, vehicles and people, including civilians, were regularly blown up there.
