The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani's statement, calling it provocative and a distortion of historical facts. Speaking on the anniversary of the 1915 events, Mamdani linked the killing of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire to modern-day events, accusing Azerbaijan and Turkey of attacking Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020 and "expelling" more than 100,000 people in 2023.
Russian serviceman Ivan Ch., who was detained after arriving from Kazakhstan at Yerevan airport, was released after questioning by the police. He has been wanted in Russia for leaving his unit without permission since April 2023.
As Armenian human rights activist Arthur Sakunts noted, the police interrogation was of a formal nature and was due to the fact that the man was put on an interstate wanted list.
The day before, Armenian border guards detained Natalya Taranushenko, a teacher near Moscow, who left Russia because of a criminal case about military “fakes.” She was then released on an undertaking to appear.
The case against Russian and literature teacher Taranushenko was opened in June because of her story about the actions of the Russian army in Ukraine during a lesson. The woman managed to leave Russia.
