The largest share of informal (shadow) employment of the population of the Russian Federation is found in Ingushetia (54%), Dagestan (51%) and Kabardino-Balkaria (48%), according to Rosstat. Most often, such workers work in the areas of trade and repair of vehicles.
Most citizens are forced to work unofficially to avoid paying high taxes. Most of the taxes in the Russian Federation are stolen during the development of the budget, and also spent on military and power purposes.
In general, about a third of branches of the Russian economy recorded a decline in the number of workers in 2022. This is due to the mobilization of about 300,000 people and the fact that about 500,000 people have left the country since the beginning of the war. As a result, official unemployment is decreasing and the shortage of personnel is increasing.
