On Wednesday, March 4, a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, co-chaired by the prime ministers of Georgia and Armenia, was held. Armenian and Georgian media reported that Irakli Kobakhidze and Nikol Pashinyan discussed the positive dynamics of deepening partnerships in various sectors, future prospects, and the importance of stability in the region.
"In addition to trade and economic relations, we enjoy very close cooperation in areas such as education, culture, and strategic directions. Maintaining stability in the region is also crucial. We are pleased with the recent trends developing in our region. The peace agreement signed between you and Azerbaijan was very significant," the Georgian prime minister said.
The Armenian leader, in turn, emphasized the importance of deepening regional cooperation, calling Georgia's assistance in developing bilateral trade and economic ties between Yerevan and Baku "invaluable."
The day before, Kobakhidze and Pashinyan met face-to-face in Tbilisi. The two discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral strategic agenda, emphasizing the importance of consistently developing and expanding trade and economic cooperation.
In this context, special attention was paid to the upcoming 15th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the two countries. The parties expressed confidence that it will give new impetus to the bilateral partnership in various fields.
"It is an honor for me to attend another meeting. This format is called the 15th meeting of the Armenia-Georgia Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation. Since this is the 15th meeting, it means that, in our opinion, relations are developing," Pashinyan shared his impressions.
He said that at the joint briefing, the prime ministers "discussed the economic, bilateral, regional, and international agendas... and identified areas with the greatest potential for developing cooperation."
The head of the Armenian government expressed gratitude to his interlocutor "for his continued support of the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan," and to the Georgian people for their tangible support.
"Today, Armenia and Azerbaijan are developing economic relations and ties with the assistance and support of Georgia – this is truly commendable, and I thank you for this valuable contribution," Pashinyan said.
He also focused on tourism, noting that "for Armenian tourists, Georgia has been, is, and will remain the most desirable destination for vacation and visit," adding that "the number of tourists from Georgia visiting Armenia is also growing."
"We are pleased with this growing trend. These relations are important because they demonstrate that our active political friendship is reflected in the ties between our peoples in culture, sports, and the economy," Pashinyan concluded.
