"On behalf of the Georgian government, I congratulate you on your election as Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Georgia attaches great importance to partnerships based on mutual respect between the two countries and peoples. I wish peace and prosperity to the Iranian people," the congratulatory message reads.
Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev sent congratulations to Mojtaba Khamenei on his election as Supreme Leader of Iran. In his message, Pashinyan expressed hope for the further strengthening of Armenian-Iranian ties. Aliyev reiterated his condolences over the tragic death of Mojtaba Khamenei's father, Ali Khamenei.
On March 9, Iran's Council of Experts elected the son of the slain ayatollah as the country's third Supreme Leader.
