The search for 8-year-old Khizir Derbichev, swept away by a powerful river current in Ingushetia, has been ongoing for eight days now. Since early morning, a new shift of volunteers entered the cold waters of the Sunzha River and continued combing the area in hopes of finding the little hero who dared to risk his life to save his friend.
Decisions by the United States and the European Union against Georgia are a response to anti-European and anti-Western rhetoric and actions, to the stupid and hostile policies of the ruling party. This is how Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili commented on the suspension of the country’s integration into the EU and the freezing of financial assistance of 30 million euros.
“This is a response from our two closest friends to the reckless and hostile policies of the ruling Georgian Dream party towards them. At the same time, it is a warning to the public: our partners tell us that the choice is yours between Georgia, with a secure European future, and moving into Russia's isolated orbit. We are told that this law and this unfriendly behavior are incompatible with the continued support of Europeans or Americans,” Zurabishvili said, referring to the adopted law on foreign agents.
The day before, the European Union suspended the process of Georgia joining it. In addition, it was announced that 30 million euros were frozen to support the defense sector of Georgia. The US has also imposed visa restrictions on individuals who, according to Washington, are responsible for undermining democracy in Georgia. In addition to this, Washington abandoned military exercises with Georgia.
