Washington emphasized that such actions constitute a "flagrant violation of Azerbaijan's sovereignty" and an unnecessary escalation. The US also expressed full solidarity with Baku and noted that attacks on the territory of its partners in the region are unacceptable.
For its part, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry praised the State Department's statement. The statement stated that this US position reaffirms its support for the strategic partnership enshrined in the Charter between Baku and Washington, signed in February of this year. The statement added that support from the most powerful country in the world, the United States, is particularly important.
Following the incident, Azerbaijan began evacuating diplomats from Iran. President Ilham Aliyev called it a terrorist attack. Tehran denies any involvement, blaming Israel for the attacks and affirming its respect for Azerbaijan's sovereignty.
