The body of Abakar Abakarov, the former co-founder of the Russian Congress of the Peoples of the Caucasus and the alleged owner of the "Utro Dagestan" Telegram channel, was found in a rented villa in Istanbul. Media reports indicate the cause of death was stab wounds, although this information has not yet been officially confirmed.

The Makhachkala court received a protocol on violation of “foreign agency” legislation in relation to journalist Idris Yusupov. In April, police conducted a second search of his home. A mobile phone and two laptops were confiscated from the owner. After this, the journalist was taken to the Center for Emergency Operations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Dagestan.
The security forces were interested in the circumstances of the transfer of funds to the public organization Committee “Civic Assistance”. Yusupov explained that at the beginning of 2023, for several months, he participated in the Committee’s project to provide assistance to prisoners from the North Caucasus.
In November 2023, Idris Yusupov was added to the list of foreign agents. The Ministry of Justice justified this decision by his participation in the creation of materials for foreign agents and the dissemination of false information about the authorities of the Russian Federation.
Idris Yusupov regularly holds pickets in support of his colleagues. In particular, he demands the release of political prisoner Abdulmumin Gadzhiev, sentenced to 17 years in prison. In addition, the activist opposed the mobilization of the residents of Dagestan to the “SVO”.
