The Southern District Military Court sentenced Usman Elsanov to 16 years in a maximum-security penal colony. He was accused of participating in an armed attack on police officers in Chechnya in 2004.

Political prisoner Zakhar Zaripov, who is in the pre-trial detention center of the Khabarovsk region, was diagnosed with cancer. His lawyer clarified that the man was diagnosed with a parotid salivary gland tumor.
In April, Zakhar Zaripov, an activist from Khabarovsk Krai, was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of inciting terrorism. In fact, he turned to the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, on social networks with an appeal not to send his compatriots to fight in Ukraine. In addition to this, he recalled how Chechnya tried to achieve its independence.
Linguistic examination saw in the publication signs of "an incitement to an armed seizure of power with the aim of violating the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation." Human rights project "Support of political prisoners. Memorial" recognized Zaripov as a political prisoner.
"We believe that the man's actions do not constitute a crime, and the case against him is fabricated for political reasons as an instrument of intimidation of critics of the Russian authorities. The text, because of which a criminal case was opened against him, does not represent a public danger," human rights activists noted.
Zakhar Zaripov taught mathematics to prisoners in the colony. He had a young daughter and a pregnant wife left at liberty.
