Historian and propagandist who claimed that there was no such thing as an “Azerbaijani” nationality has died

Mikhail Smolin, who was called a pillar of modern conservatism, has died in Russia.

Last year, on the political talk show “Mesto Vstrechi” on NTV, Mikhail Smolin stated that there had never been any Kazakhs, Azerbaijanis, or Uzbeks, and that “Lenin came up with all of this in 1918.”

“There were no Kazakhs before the revolution. They were simply pulled out of the RSFSR. Back then, decisions about forming nations were made so arbitrarily. And there were never any Uzbeks either. And then they were created. Or who are the Azerbaijanis? There is no such nationality,” the “expert” claimed.
