A native of Chechnya who was tortured in an Irkutsk colony denies charges of organizing a riot
At a court hearing in Irkutsk, a native of Chechnya, Khumaid Khaidaev, denied charges of organizing a riot, calling on prisoners to harm themselves, and beating an employee at IK-15 in Angarsk, Irkutsk Region. According to him, he only had six months left to serve before his release, and on the day of the riots, one of the employees tried to provoke him with questions about religion.

In 2022, the Kirovsky District Court of Irkutsk upheld the refusal to initiate a criminal case on the torture to which Khumaid Khaidaev was subjected. He was abused in Pre-trial Detention Center No. 1 in Irkutsk, where he was transferred after suppressing a riot of prisoners in the Angarsk penal colony in April 2020. He said that on the orders of the detention center staff, he was hung by his arms and legs, after which he was beaten and burned with a hot metal spoon. Later, doctors recorded fractures of the fingers of Khaidaev's left foot and right hand, as well as multiple bruises, abrasions and contusions.
 
In 2023, Khumaid Khaidaev went on a hunger strike in Irkutsk's SIZO-1. He protested against being fed food prohibited for Muslims and the cold in the cell.
 
Khaidaev, a resident of the Gudermes district, has been in prison since 2008. He was convicted under articles on participation in an illegal armed group and an attempt on the life of a security officer.
