Flood damage in Dagestan and Chechnya estimated at 1 billion rubles

The impact of flooding and waterlogging in Dagestan and Chechnya is preliminarily estimated at over 1 billion rubles. Speaking at a meeting in Dagestan, Yuri Chaika, the Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the North Caucasus Federal District, demanded that the republic's authorities promptly prepare and submit to the government commission documents substantiating the material damage.

He also appealed to federal agencies for assistance in restoring damaged residential buildings, housing and utilities facilities, and social and industrial infrastructure.

Amid the natural disaster, investigations have begun in Dagestan. Law enforcement agencies have arrested the former head and an employee of the Makhachkala Housing and Utilities Department. They are suspected of embezzling approximately 370 million rubles out of 417 million allocated in 2022 for storm drain repairs. The investigation is ongoing, and a criminal case has been opened for fraud.
