According to the Nalchik Garrison Military Court, serviceman Temirkan Bakhov was found guilty of failing to report for duty. He was sentenced to three years and six months in a general regime penal colony.
Representatives of the Chechen diaspora held a rally outside a prison in the Austrian city of Krems. The main demand was for independent, transparent, and effective investigations into all cases of death, violence, and possible human rights violations in Austrian prisons, according to Roza Dunaeva, a human rights activist and representative of Ichkeria abroad.
According to her, the rally participants remembered the victims and their tragic fates. The activists also expressed their categorical opposition to the practice of deportations, especially in cases where there is reason to believe that those being deported may be in danger, including the risk of persecution or violence.
"Special attention was paid to the situation of the Chechen people in the context of ongoing conflicts and reports of human rights violations, including allegations of large-scale human losses and continued coercion to participate in military operations," Dunaeva noted.
She emphasized the need for an international legal response and compliance with international humanitarian law.
Chechnya natives have previously faced deportations from Estonia, Germany, and other countries, despite Amnesty International's warnings about the high risk of torture and forced conscription.
