Azerbaijan celebrates National Revival Day
Today, Azerbaijan celebrates National Revival Day. This day has historical ties to the national liberation movement that erupted in Baku in November-December 1988.
At that time, hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis took to Azadlig (Freedom) Square to protest the double standards pursued by the USSR. In early December, these rallies were dispersed by Soviet troops. However, nearly two years later, on October 18, 1991, Azerbaijan restored its independence.
National Revival Day was officially established in Azerbaijan on November 17, 1992, and has been celebrated annually at the state level since then.
