In Dagestan, two police officers who beat a woman have been released

The Khasavyurt City Court of Dagestan has issued a verdict against police officers Shamil Aliyev and Ramazan Saypulayev, as well as operational commissioner Maya Akhmedova. Their case concerned accusations of torture and fabricated criminal charges against Yulduz Kurashova, according to the "Team Against Torture."

Previously, the Supreme Court of Dagestan twice overturned previous verdicts, remanding the case for a new trial with a different panel of judges. This is the third such trial.
The court found Aliyev and Saypulayev guilty of abuse of office with the use of violence. The former received a suspended sentence of three years and six months in prison, while the latter received a suspended sentence of three years.

Furthermore, all three defendants, including Akhmedova, were found guilty of falsifying evidence (Part 4 of Article 303 of the Criminal Code) and fined 150,000 rubles each. However, they were released from punishment under this article due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.

As a reminder, in June 2020, Yulduz Kurashova was detained by police officers and taken to the station. She alleged that Aliyev and Saypulayev physically assaulted her, demanding money and threatening to plant drugs on her. She was released only the following morning, after signing a confession. A medical examination confirmed that Kurashova had a concussion and bodily injuries.
