In Dagestan, flooding is collapsing homes and structures, causing casualties

In the village of Kirki in Dagestan, the body of a dead woman was found under the rubble of a house that collapsed due to a landslide. A man was also injured. This was reported by TASS, citing Zapir Gasanov, head of the Kaitag district.

The official's Telegram channel reported that two more houses were damaged, and "another five houses remain at risk."

Meanwhile, in Makhachkala, apartment buildings on Perov Street are being deformed by flooding. Several buildings are at risk of collapse, and one has already collapsed. Head of the republic, Sergei Melikov, has arrived at the scene, and emergency services are working.

Local media published a video of the regional leader speaking with residents of the evacuated apartment building.

"Most likely, the building will have to be demolished," Melikov said, explaining that an inspection revealed a void under the foundation.

He asks people remaining on the street after the threat of collapse to be patient, not to panic, and await further instructions.

The city administration also reports that four apartment buildings on Aivazovsky Street have been cordoned off due to the potential risk of collapse. About 300 residents have been evacuated.

Earlier, an apartment building on Gazoprovodnaya Street collapsed in the Dagestani capital. Sergei Melikov stated that construction violations were the cause. He ordered an investigation into those responsible for the construction approvals in the river floodplain, and a criminal case has been opened.

Furthermore, in the Derbent District of Dagestan, a dam collapsed due to a river overflow. District Head Elman Allahverdiyev reported that approximately 800 households have been evacuated to temporary accommodation centers. The Ministry of Emergency Situations clarified that over 4,100 people are planned to be evacuated to a safe zone.
