Earthquake hits Dagestan

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center, a magnitude 5.5 earthquake hit Dagestan. The epicenter was in the Caspian Sea, 28 km east of Izberbash, at a depth of 10 km.

Other sources report a magnitude of 6.0 and an epicenter 88 km from Makhachkala. Some residents, fearing aftershocks, temporarily left their homes. The tremors were felt in several areas of the republic, as well as in Iran, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia.
