The body of Abakar Abakarov, the former co-founder of the Russian Congress of the Peoples of the Caucasus and the alleged owner of the "Utro Dagestan" Telegram channel, was found in a rented villa in Istanbul. Media reports indicate the cause of death was stab wounds, although this information has not yet been officially confirmed.

A picket was held in Makhachkala demanding the release of the journalist of the Chernovik newspaper Abdulmumin Gadzhiev from the colony and the termination of the criminal case fabricated against him. Magomed Magomedov, deputy editor-in-chief of the Chernovik publication, came to the rally.
In December 2023, lawyers of the Memorial Center sent an appeal to the UN regarding the case of Abdulmumin Gadzhiev. The text states that the journalist is being persecuted for his professional activities and religious beliefs.
Let us recall that in September 2023, the Rostov District Military Court found Abdulmumin Gadzhiev, the editor of the “Religion” section of the Chernovik publication, guilty and sentenced him to 17 years in prison. He was tried under articles on “participation in the activities of terrorist organizations” and “financing terrorism.” According to investigators, the journalist published materials about the Ansar charity foundation and did not mention that part of the money collected was sent to the Islamic State, an organization banned in the Russian Federation. At the same time, the examinations did not find any signs of justification for terrorism in Hajiyev’s articles, and prosecution witnesses spoke in favor of the defendants.
