In Dagestan, a critical situation with the Caspian seal population was announced

The seal population in the Caspian Sea is not only in critical condition, but has crossed the red line, after which it is unlikely to be restored in the near future. So says Alimurad Gadzhiev, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor at the Institute of Ecology and Sustainable Development of DSU.

The main version of the death of Caspian seals, according to the Compass eco-fund, is their infection with highly pathogenic avian influenza. The Foundation sent a proposal to the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation and Rosprirodnadzor to include the seal in the list of rare and endangered objects of the animal world that require priority measures for restoration and reintroduction.

In December 2022, 2.5 thousand Caspian seal carcasses were found on the shores of the Caspian Sea in Dagestan.
