Elena Patyaeva—a friend of Seda Suleymanova, who disappeared three years ago after being forcibly returned from St. Petersburg to Chechnya—was detained in Grozny. On August 23, Patyaeva stood by the monument to journalists who died for freedom of speech, holding a sign that read: "I demand an investigation into the murder of Seda Suleymanova." This was reported by the human rights project "Slovo Zashchite" (Word for the Defense).
Teenager detained in Dagestan for deliberately making false reports of mined buildings
Police detained a 16-year-old teenager in Derbent, Dagestan. He is suspected of calling educational institutions from September to December and reporting that their buildings were mined. During interrogation, he explained that he did this in order to "disrupt classes and not attend them."
In each case, people were evacuated, and emergency services conducted inspections. Explosive devices were not found in any of the cases.
During the investigation, more than 35 SIM cards and phones were seized from the suspect. A criminal case was opened under Part 2 of Article 207 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (deliberately making a false report of an act of terrorism).
