In Ingushetia, a woman accused of collaborating with ISIS was again placed in a pre-trial detention center

The Supreme Court of Ingushetia overturned the decision of the Malgobek District Court and returned Leila Gatagazheva to the pre-trial detention center. Previously, after a petition from the prosecutor's office, her preventive measure was repeatedly tightened from house arrest to detention.

The 21-year-old mother of two is accused of aiding ISIS (a banned terrorist organization) in Syria. Moreover, she has already suffered punishment, having served five years in prison in Iraq. After this, she was handed over to the Russian authorities.

The criminal case is based on the testimony of a single classified witness. The defense cannot review the materials while the investigation is ongoing. Since her extradition to Russia in June 2023, Leila Gatagazheva has been in a pre-trial detention center for almost nine months. During this time, her health has seriously deteriorated - tuberculosis is suspected.
