In Ingushetia, compensation was awarded to a pensioner who suffered from police violence

The Magassky District Court of Ingushetia awarded compensation in the amount of 1.5 million rubles to the Ministry of Internal Affairs pensioner and disabled person Timur Derbichev. He suffered violence at the hands of police officers.

Let us recall that in January 2022, security forces in Magas detained local resident Timur Derbichev on suspicion of illegal possession of drugs. First, he was pulled out of the car and beaten. At the department, ex-police officer of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Amiran Merzhoev approached the detainee and demanded that he kneel down, and after refusing, beat him again.

A criminal case was opened against Merzhoev and another security officer. In addition to using physical violence, they extorted a bribe of 400 thousand rubles from the pensioner in order not to draw up a report on the discovery of drugs. The victim, who has a second group disability, received bruises, a head injury and rib fractures as a result of the beatings.

Last year, the Supreme Court of Ingushetia changed Merzhoev's sentence. Instead of four years of suspended imprisonment, the defendant was sentenced to two years in a penal colony. He has already served this term in a pre-trial detention center.
