In Ingushetia, supporters of an imam accused of "failure to report a crime" protested the court's decision

The trial of Imam Muhammad Tamaskhanov, who is accused of failing to report a terrorist crime (Article 205.6 of the Russian Criminal Code), which began on February 18 in the Magas District Court of Ingushetia, has faced discontent from his supporters. At a hearing attended by over 100 people, Judge Rashid Tsitskiev postponed the case until March 11, citing technical difficulties.

This decision raised questions among those gathered, as it falls during the final days of Ramadan. One participant questioned the fairness of the date, suggesting that the judge may have been guided not only by the letter of the law but also by a desire "to please those who initiated this case."

Imams Muhammad Tamaskhanov and Magomed Sultygov were detained in the spring of 2025, sparking widespread controversy. It was reported that security forces threatened their supporters with criminal prosecution for participating in public events not approved by the authorities.

Furthermore, it was reported that "illegal interrogation methods" were used against Tamaskhanov, and the prosecution itself was linked to pressure on Salafis. The imams were pressured to confess to ties to the "Gurazhev group," whose members, according to investigators, attacked security forces in 2023.

As a reminder, the group associated with Amirkhan Gurazhev and Adam Ozdoyev attracted attention in 2023 after an alleged attack on a traffic police post, which resulted in injuries to law enforcement officers.

In March 2024, a special operation was conducted in Karabulak, which, according to security forces, resulted in the deaths of several Ingush residents, including the group's alleged leader, Amirkhan Gurazhev. The fate of Adam Ozdoyev, who was also wanted, remains unknown. The total number of people detained in this case exceeds 30, some of whom have already been convicted.
