During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. He said he believed this was "right" and suggested "following their example," citing Ramzan Kadyrov's large family.
The Nalchik Garrison Military Court found mobilized Amir Liyev guilty of evading military service and sentenced him to five years in prison.
According to investigators, the serviceman did not return to his unit in the Zaporizhia region of Ukraine after a vacation granted in November 2023. In May 2024, he voluntarily arrived at the military commandant's office in Mozdok, since "he had no intention of evading service at all."
Amir Liyev explained that he was unable to return from vacation on time, since the court sentenced his wife to a real prison term for "fictitious registration of a foreign citizen." He had to stay home to care for his young son.
When sentencing, the court took into account that the defendant was raised in a complete family, has a positive characterization, and is a combat veteran.
