The Kremlin demanded clarification from Armenia regarding agreements with the United States and the European Union

Russia is waiting for a clear reaction and disavowal from Armenia after the leak of information about military-political agreements with the United States and the EU at a meeting in Brussels on April 5. This ultimatum was put forward to Yerevan by the Russian Foreign Ministry in the person of its representative Maria Zakharova.

According to her, Moscow will not be surprised if it turns out that plans to replace the Russian military base and border guards with Western ones, as well as to reorient important infrastructure in Armenia, become a reality.

“Westerners are trying to create a quarrel between their neighbors in the South Caucasus, and Armenia is assigned only the role of an instrument with which they want to ignite a new big fire,” she noted.

A number of media reported that during the US-EU-Armenia meeting a military pact was concluded behind the scenes. It includes funding under the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program to facilitate Armenia's access to advanced military equipment and technology, an assistance package to support the Armenian military to strengthen its defense sector, cooperation to ensure the long-term presence of the EU mission and a significant increase in its personnel, training and equipping the newly created Foreign Intelligence Service and State Security Service of Armenia, creating a joint military and defense group to implement the Armenian defense and security sustainability program.
