A memorial plaque to Anna Politkovskaya has been reinstalled in Moscow after another act of vandalism

A new memorial plaque has been installed on the building where Novaya Gazeta journalist Anna Politkovskaya lived and was murdered. This follows more than twenty previous instances of the plaque being destroyed by unknown assailants. Activists intend to continue their work until it is permanently preserved.

The new plaque repeats the original's text: "Anna Politkovskaya lived in this building and was vilely murdered on October 7, 2006." It is located beneath a stenciled inscription, which was also damaged.

As a reminder, the original plaque, which hung on the wall of a building on Lesnaya Street for nearly 20 years, was smashed on January 18. Subsequent temporary plaques installed by activists were usually destroyed within less than 24 hours.

Anna Politkovskaya, known for her investigations into the war and human rights violations in Chechnya, was murdered in Moscow on October 7, 2006. Those who ordered the crime were never punished.
