The Georgian Parliament reminded that Russia is an aggressor and an occupier

Russia is an aggressor and an occupying state, and this is an unequivocally confirmed fact. This was stated by the Chairman of the Committee on International Relations of the Georgian Parliament and a member of the ruling Georgian Dream party Nikoloz Samkharadze.

He was referring to the separation of Abkhazia and South Ossetia from Georgia, which are actually under the control of the Russian Federation. Samkharadze also tried to explain the words of the Honorary Chairman of the Georgian Dream Bidzina Ivanishvili. The latter said the day before that an apology should be made for the fact that the Unity – National Movement party, which was in power in 2008, “enveloped Ossetian sisters and brothers in flames of fire.”

“We must see the truth: there is a layer of conflict between Georgians and Ossetians that dates back to the 90s; there is a second layer – a major conflict between Russia and Georgia. No one denies this. Simply, if we want to regain not only the lost territories in the future, but also the people who live in these territories, then we must take steps towards reconciliation,” Samkharadze noted. At the same time, he also stated that the Ossetian side must also admit its mistakes.
