The Russian Federation is concerned about Armenia's rapprochement with NATO

The West, by inviting Azerbaijan and Armenia to the NATO summit, wants to tear them away from cooperation with Russia. This was stated at a briefing by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Nastasin.

“The imposition of their recipes by Euro-Atlanticists, which are far from understanding the specifics of the region, leads to the emergence of new dividing lines in the South Caucasus and will have devastating consequences not only for this region, but also for pan-Eurasian security as a whole. We hope that Baku and Yerevan understand this well,” the diplomat shared.

According to Nastassin, the invitation to Washington is intended to demonstrate support for NATO in the organization’s anniversary year.

“They are pumping up weapons, trying to rebuild the defense sector of Armenia, and undermine existing mechanisms within the CSTO. NATO emissaries make trips to Baku, not contributing to the development of peaceful relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” the speaker noted.

On June 28, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs O'Brien said that Azerbaijan and Armenia were invited to a meeting of NATO partners on July 9-11 in Washington. Yerevan confirmed its participation in the summit.
