The Orenburg Regional Court has begun hearing the state prosecution's appeal in the 6-million-ruble bribe case involving former senator Rauf Arashukov. The prosecution is seeking to increase the fine for the former official, who was sentenced to life imprisonment, from 120 million to 420 million rubles.
According to investigators, in May 2024, Arashukov attempted to bribe an employee of the Black Dolphin prison, offering 6 million rubles for privileges such as frequent visits and unlimited parcels. While attempting to transfer the funds, the prisoner and his lawyer-intermediary were detained.
Subsequently, the Leninsky District Court of Orenburg sentenced Arashukov, who already had a life sentence, to an additional 10 years in prison and a fine of 120 million rubles. The prosecutor's office is now insisting on increasing the fine to 420 million rubles.
As a reminder, Rauf Arashukov was arrested in 2019. In December 2022, the Moscow City Court sentenced him and his father, Raul Arashukov, known as the "gas king," to life imprisonment for organizing murders and theft of gas on an especially large scale. After the verdict, the elder Arashukov reportedly requested membership in the SVO, but was denied.
