The body of 30-year-old Abkhaz blogger and activist Daur Buava, who gained notoriety for his public calls for reconciliation between Abkhaz and Georgians, was found in Tbilisi. The cause of his death is being investigated, and a forensic examination has been ordered.

According to TV Pirveli, Buava's body was found in a rented apartment in the Dighomi district after neighbors complained of a strong odor. According to local residents, the blogger was last seen alive on August 23.

Forensic experts worked at the scene until late into the night.
The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation under Article 115 of the Criminal Code—"incitement to suicide." In Georgia, this article specifically covers cases of death where the circumstances and possible violent nature of the death are not initially established.

Daur Buava was a native of Tkvarcheli and ran a popular TikTok blog under the handle @tarielovich78. Tens of thousands of users followed his posts on social media. Initially, he wrote about the cultural and religious differences between the peoples of the Caucasus.

A turning point, as Buava himself recounted, was his trip from Sukhumi to Tbilisi in 2021. The blogger wanted to see for himself how Georgians treated the Abkhaz. After the trip, he began openly advocating for dialogue between the two peoples and the restoration of a unified state, arguing that the perception of Georgians as enemies was largely shaped by propaganda. Buava later received Georgian citizenship and, together with like-minded individuals, founded the youth organization "Amra" (Sun), which focused on developing contacts between Georgian and Abkhaz youth.

"I want Abkhazia to be part of Georgia, with its own autonomy." "September 27 was Victory Day in Abkhazia, but here it's the day of the fall of Sukhum, which is a day of mourning. I can't say 'victory'—it's painful for me that quite a large number of people died on both sides," he said in an interview with Paper Kartuli in the fall of 2023, when asked what he stood for.

His activities provoked a sharp reaction from the authorities of self-proclaimed Abkhazia. In May 2022, the republic's State Security Service opened a criminal case against Buav for "high treason." The agency stated that his videos contained calls that, according to investigators, were directed against the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security of Abkhazia.
The SSS claimed that the blogger was promoting Abkhazia's accession to Georgia as an autonomous region and thereby assisting a foreign state in "conducting hostile activities."

Buava himself denied these accusations and repeatedly rejected allegations of betrayal. In one of his last interviews, he explained his position:

"I am only for Georgians and Abkhazians to be together again. We are brothers, and we share a common history."

After the criminal case was opened, the blogger was placed on a wanted list in Abkhazia. Buava also reported that Abkhazian security forces interrogated his relatives and conducted searches at their homes. According to him, security officials offered him a "pardon" in exchange for being sent to fight in Ukraine.

In December 2022, Buava received Georgian citizenship through a simplified procedure. In subsequent years, he continued to publicly advocate for rapprochement between Georgians and Abkhazians, despite his criminal prosecution.
