South Ossetian authorities criticized the Georgian Foreign Ministry's statement on events in Venezuela

Following Sukhumi, Tskhinvali also responded to the Georgian Foreign Ministry's statement on events in Venezuela. The South Ossetian Foreign Ministry stated that the Venezuelan authorities' decision to recognize the self-proclaimed republic as an "independent state" is beyond question.

"It should also be emphasized that the legality of the Venezuelan leadership's decision cannot be discussed and, moreover, does not require assessment by a third party, which, following an investigation by an international commission, was recognized as the aggressor against South Ossetia for the events of August 2008," Tskhinvali noted.

According to the statement, South Ossetia's relations with Venezuela "are based on international law and are enshrined in bilateral treaties." The self-proclaimed republic also emphasized that Tskhinvali continues to communicate with its Venezuelan counterparts and hopes for a "speedy normalization of the situation."

"Instead of reading tea leaves, we call on Tbilisi to be constructive and recognize the existing political realities in the region, which would contribute to strengthening peace and security," the South Ossetian authorities concluded.

Earlier, Sukhumi responded to the Georgian Foreign Ministry's statement. According to Abkhazia's Deputy Foreign Minister, Odyssey Bigvava, Tbilisi's "attempts" to "interpret international processes based on its own political expectations do not objectively reflect the prevailing regional and international realities." The self-proclaimed republic emphasized that Abkhazia is a "sovereign state" and that this "is not subject to revision."

As a reminder, the Georgian Foreign Ministry commented on recent events in Venezuela, expressing hope that they will lead to the country's authorities rescinding their recognition of Georgia's occupied regions. The ministry noted that it is closely monitoring developments and hopes for "future processes to develop in accordance with the interests of the Venezuelan people."
