Elena Patyaeva—a friend of Seda Suleymanova, who disappeared three years ago after being forcibly returned from St. Petersburg to Chechnya—was detained in Grozny. On August 23, Patyaeva stood by the monument to journalists who died for freedom of speech, holding a sign that read: "I demand an investigation into the murder of Seda Suleymanova." This was reported by the human rights project "Slovo Zashchite" (Word for the Defense).
Volgograd colony seized by "ISIS Mujahideen"
Prisoners seized Colony No. 19 in Surovikino, Volgograd Region. A riot occurred there, after which the prisoners took several FSIN employees hostage, some of whom were killed. The hostage takers call themselves "Islamic State Mujahideen".
The head of IK-19, Andrei Devyatov, is in intensive care. He is one of five victims who managed to escape. Special forces are being deployed to the IK building.
IK-19 is a men's maximum security penal colony. According to official data, it holds 1,241 people.
