UNM Deputy Secretary General Condemns Statement by Speaker of Georgian Parliament

Irakli Pavlenishvili, Deputy Secretary General of the Georgian opposition party United National Movement, called the statement by Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili "shameful." Papuashvili had previously stated, "Ukraine is in a situation today where it can neither continue the war nor end it. They wanted this to happen to us, so that we would have no choice, and so that we would be faced with two bad options."

"It is extremely shameful when occupied Georgia welcomes any information that is directed against Ukraine and advantageous to Russia. For me, this is the biggest red line," the UNM member fumed.

According to Pavlenishvili, Russia will be defeated in a Russian-Ukrainian war, as it "will not be able to achieve its strategic goals."

"If anyone thinks that Russia will realize its imperial ambitions, demilitarize Ukraine, destroy Ukrainian statehood, or force Ukraine to abandon Western integration and sovereignty, they are gravely mistaken. This was Russia's strategic goal, and that is precisely why it will inevitably lose this war, and is already losing," the politician explained.

Regarding Ukraine, Pavlenishvili noted that "now is a truly difficult time for it," as it is fighting a war "with a force that for many years was considered one of the world's leading military powers." The opposition leader added that Ukraine "periodically faces difficult challenges—including now, in winter conditions and against the backdrop of Russian aggression." However, in his opinion, this does not mean the enemy is not suffering defeat, as its strategic goals were "not to create a difficult situation in Ukraine."
