The defense of Crimean Tatar political prisoners found violations in the forensic examinations commissioned by the FSB

At the Southern District Military Court, the defense of the defendants in the case of the "fifth Bakhchisarai group" presented an independent forensic examination. According to it, the conclusions of the FSB specialists who examined the audio materials were "far-fetched," according to lawyer Emil Kurbedinov.

The court included several documents from the defense in the case file: two independent expert opinions and reviews of the psychological, linguistic, and religious studies examinations previously presented by the prosecution.

As Kurbedinov noted, the independent experts found violations in the forensic examinations commissioned by the FSB. Particular attention was paid to the fact that psychological, linguistic, and religious studies can only be conducted in authorized state institutions, with which the specialists involved were not affiliated.

"A large number of the conclusions are far-fetched." "The general formulations refer to methodologies that are completely inapplicable to these examinations," the lawyer emphasized, confirming the defense's arguments about violations in the conduct of humanitarian examinations.

On August 24, 2023, security forces conducted searches and arrests in the homes of six Crimean Tatars living in Bakhchisarai. The defendants were Seidamet Mustafayev, Eldar Yakubov, Abdulmedzhit Seytumerov, Ruslan Asanov, Ametkhan Umerov, and Remzi Nimetulayev. They had previously been detained for participating in solidarity protests aimed at supporting other Crimean Tatars. They are accused of participating in the activities of a terrorist organization. Human rights activists claim that the real reason for the criminal prosecution is their peaceful political and religious activism, criticism of the authorities, and protests against repression.
