A large-scale investigation published by TRT in Russian lays bare the human cost of Russia's war in Ukraine for the Republic of North Ossetia—a small region with a population of approximately 700,000, where, according to figures presented at a meeting of an internal, interdepartmental, government commission, between 43,000 and 45,000 people took part in the fighting.
Dagestani man sentenced for alleged ISIS recruitment
The Southern District Military Court sentenced Dagestani Shamil Aliyev to 14 years in a maximum security penal colony. The investigation claimed that he participated in ISIS (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) and tried to recruit others to it.
According to security forces, Aliyev swore allegiance to the terrorist organization in 2024. Soon after, he left for Adygea, where he met an Afghan citizen and tried to recruit him to ISIS. Allegedly, he "immersed the victim in the basics of criminal ideology, showed audio and video content about the organization's activities."
As a result, the Dagestani was brought to criminal responsibility for participation in a terrorist organization and recruitment.
