An Ingush resident was fined half a million rubles for justifying terrorism

An Ingush resident was fined 500,000 rubles for publicly supporting terrorist activity through comments on a social media site. The case was investigated by the First Western District Military Court, based in St. Petersburg.

The criminal prosecution was initiated following a comment in a Telegram chat belonging to the Chechen opposition movement Niyso. According to investigators, the Ingush native expressed approval of the actions of a member of the "Gurazhev group," which is allegedly linked to attacks on law enforcement officials.

A criminal case was opened against the man for publicly endorsing terrorism (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code). In addition to the fine, he was also banned from publishing messages and materials online for two years.

The "Amirkhan Gurazhev and Adam Ozdoyev Group" gained notoriety in 2023 after an alleged attack on a traffic police post in Ingushetia. Over 30 people were detained in connection with this case, many of whom have already been indicted.

In March 2024, during a counterterrorism operation in Karabulak, security forces killed Amirkhan Gurazhev and five others. They were declared members of the banned terrorist organization Islamic State.
