Residents of Dagestan who warmed their feet at the Eternal Flame were sentenced to real terms

In the Stavropol Territory, in the city of Nevinnomyssk, a court sentenced four residents of Dagestan, finding them guilty of desecrating the Eternal Flame memorial. The young people received real prison terms - up to 2.5 years of imprisonment in a penal colony.

The incident for which the Dagestanis were convicted occurred in November 2024. A video published by the Investigative Committee captured the young people standing on the pedestal of the monument, with two of them sitting directly on the fence of the Eternal Flame. The footage shows them alternately bringing their feet and hands to the flame, trying to warm themselves.

A video of the detainees' apologies was later published. One of them said that they did not know that such actions were unacceptable on the territory of the memorial. According to him, the goal was just to warm up.
