15 countries and associations opposed the elections in Karabakh

To date, 15 states and the EU have not recognized the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh and the presidential elections held there on September 9. These events were opposed at the state level by the USA, Britain, the EU, Hungary, Romania, Ukraine, Turkey, Georgia, Moldova, Germany, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, and Bulgaria.

Samvel Shahramanyan was elected President of Karabakh. 23 members of parliament took part in the secret ballot: 22 of them voted for, 1 - against.

At the same time, the United States stated that it would not tolerate ethnic cleansing or other atrocities against the people of Nagorno-Karabakh. This was stated by Acting Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Yuri Kim at a hearing in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. “We are deeply concerned about the blockade of the Lachin corridor and its consequences for the people of Nagorno-Karabakh. For us, the status quo in this matter is absolutely unacceptable, and we will not stop our work until we reach a solution, as the Azerbaijani authorities notified,” the diplomat said.
