September 6 for Chechens: one day – two holidays

Events were held in a number of countries to mark the 33rd anniversary of the declaration of independence of the CRI.

Representatives of the Chechen diaspora in Germany, Belgium, Austria, Turkey and other countries held events to show support for the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. September 6 marked the 33rd anniversary of its declaration of independence.

A meeting of representatives of the Ichkerian government abroad, participants in the Russian-Chechen wars and activists was held in Berlin. They discussed their uniting past and plans for further work in the diaspora. Special attention was paid to topics related to the full-scale war in Ukraine, in particular the participation of Chechen volunteer formations in it. A similar event was held in Turkey.

In Vienna, representatives of the Chechen diaspora were invited to the Austrian parliament, in front of which a public action was held. This was reported by the local representative of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria in the country, Roza Dunaeva. According to her, the NEOS party deputies promised activists to raise the issue of the occupation of Chechnya at a parliamentary session.

In Chechnya itself, September 6 is the Republic Day, established in 2002 by the then head of the republic, Akhmat-Khadzhi Kadyrov, in opposition to the idea of independence - as a holiday symbolizing Chechnya's belonging to Russia.

Recall that on October 18, 2022, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a resolution recognizing Chechnya as a territory temporarily occupied by Russia. The document states that Russia committed genocide against the Chechen people and condemns it.

The Defense Ministry's "talking head"—the deputy head of the Main Military-Political Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces, also the commander of one of the "Akhmat" formations—has been promoting the idea of a global, joint confrontation between Russian Muslims and Christians against "Satanism" since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war. He regularly finds himself in various scrapes: with the Zetniks, with nationalists, and with Orthodox priests. And the more he tries to "cross a snake and a hedgehog" with his obvious desire to be "one of the guys," the more harshly he is criticized from all sides.
