Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan issued a statement declaring that Armenians held captive by Azerbaijan are a result of conflict, not peace. In his video address, he emphasized that peace increases the chances of releasing the captives, while conflict makes this virtually impossible.
The Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Jim Risch, expressed "grave concern" about the consolidation of power by the Georgian government in the context of a one-party parliament. In an interview with Independence Avenue Media, he made it clear that there is no hope of a warming of relations between Washington and Tbilisi unless Georgia's ruling party changes course.
"Under the one-party rule of the Georgian Dream party, the consolidation of power by the Georgian government is a matter of grave concern. If the government continues on this path, the United States must adjust its approach to relations accordingly.
The Georgian government's anti-American rhetoric, attacks on free speech and the political opposition, and rapprochement with China and Iran are bad signs for the future of our relations. I hope [the Georgian government] will change course," the senator stated.
According to him, the US House of Representatives and Senate continue their efforts to pass the bipartisan and bicameral MEGOBARI act.
