Armenia continues to act as a transit country for the Russian Federation while circumventing EU sanctions. This is evidenced by the sharp increase in exports of products from European countries to Armenia since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. This was announced by Robin Brooks, chief economist at the Washington Institute of International Finance (IIF).
“EU exports to Armenia have increased by 200% since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. These goods go to Russia and help Putin. What is Brussels doing?,” Brooks wrote on his Twitter account.
In June, US State Department Sanctions Coordinator James O'Brien called Armenia a country helping the Russian Federation to circumvent sanctions. In 2022, exports from Armenia to Russia increased by 187%. This was announced by the country's Minister of Finance Vahe Hovhannisyan. Among the exported goods are electronics necessary for the production of military products.
