Armenia hands Russian Ambassador a note of protest
The Armenian Foreign Ministry summoned Russian Ambassador Sergey Kopyrkin and handed him a note of protest. The reason was the January 12 broadcast of the Russian program "Vesti Nedeli". According to Yerevan, "during the program, artificially generated narratives were voiced that were directed against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia."

The day before, Armenia and the United States signed a document on strategic partnership in Washington. The agreement speaks of modernizing the defense system and providing Armenia with tools to protect its sovereignty.

The Armenian government recently approved a bill to launch the country's accession process to the European Union. It has been sent to parliament for adoption. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stressed that Armenia's intention to join the EU must be finally approved through a national referendum.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with Armenia's desire to become closer to Europe. According to Moscow, this is not in the interests of Yerevan and delays the normalization of the geopolitical situation in the Transcaucasus.
