Austria refused to extradite a Chechen refugee to Russia
A court in Austria refused to extradite a native of Chechnya, Zhabrail Musikhanov, to the Russian authorities. He is in a Vienna hospital with cancer.

Musikhanov has a severe form of leukemia. In addition, the court again sent a request to the prosecutor's office to grant the man asylum. Human rights activists previously stated that extradition to Russia would be tantamount to a death sentence, since Russian prisons do not have the proper conditions for treating such diseases.

Zhabrail Musikhanov arrived in Austria from Turkey. He was soon detained at the request of the Russian Federation. Moscow announced Musikhanov's involvement in military actions in Syria on the side of the international terrorist organization "Islamic State". He himself denied these accusations and reported that he had been undergoing treatment in Turkey for a long time.

"Musikhanov's story attracted a lot of attention from the diaspora. We received many responses from Chechens from different European countries, there were those who helped financially, which allowed us to pay for the lawyer's services. On behalf of Zhabrail and the government of Ichkeria, we thank all these caring people," said the representative of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria abroad, Roza Dunaeva.
