Azerbaijan celebrates the Day of Restoration of State Independence

On October 18, Azerbaijan celebrates the Day of Restoration of State Independence.

33 years ago, the country's parliament adopted the Constitutional Act on the Restoration of State Sovereignty. This document declared the Republic of Azerbaijan the successor to the Democratic Republic of 1918-1920, which fell as a result of occupation by Russia. According to the Constitutional Act, all citizens were guaranteed full equality, regardless of nationality and religion.

On October 15, 2021, the law "On Independence Day" was adopted, which was approved by President Ilham Aliyev. With the approval of the new law, May 28 is celebrated as the Independence Day of Azerbaijan, and October 18 is the Day of Restoration of Independence.

The citizens were congratulated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan. The publication on the social network X said that October 18 is the day when the Azerbaijani people restored their independence and revived the traditions of statehood.
