During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. He said he believed this was "right" and suggested "following their example," citing Ramzan Kadyrov's large family.
Economist Fazil Gasimov, a doctoral student at Istanbul University, has been on a hunger strike for 75 days in protest against his arrest. He has lost 27 kg and weighs only 40 kilograms.
According to Gasimov's brother, Fazil has severe pain in his kidneys, stomach, and heart. Appealing to official institutions does not bring any results.
Fazil Gasimov was detained on August 7, 2023. He was charged under Article 204.3.1 of the Criminal Code (production, acquisition, or sale of counterfeit money as part of an organized group). The investigation believes that he handed over counterfeit money to opposition politician and economist Gubad Ibadoglu, who is currently in custody.
Recently, Gasimov, in his address to the chief prosecutor, the ombudsman, the local and international community, stated that he confessed under torture. He emphasized that he did not give Ibadoglu any money.
